As you toil in the midst of difficult circumstances is your focus on your “earthly masters” or is it on God? Are you finding joy in the task?
If we are first aware of God’s hand and then if we embrace whole-heartedly what God is doing in this world through us then this seemingly impossible calling can be lived out. We are to give our bodies as living sacrifices, being transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2). A sense of gratitude rather than fear of punishment or embarrassment should be the greatest motivator to our pursuit of this goal.
We have an inheritance, a treasure in heaven, that is worth the effort, that is worth the commitment. Even here on earth we can take joy in the work, knowing it’s eternal value. We can stand firm and give ourselves fully to God’s work because our labor will not be in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
