Based on the book Created for Connection: The Hold Me Tight Guide for Christian Couples by Dr. Sue Johnson, the Created for Connection Marriage Workshop is based upon the well researched and empirically validated theory of attachment that helps us to understand why we have conflict in relationships and how to bring about repair and deepen emotional connection. Attachment Theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy recognizes that couples are doing the best that they can to be emotionally attached to each other even in the midst of conflict. Unfortunately, the strategies that we use during conflict cause more distance and we cannot discern what our partners are feeling or wanting. The workshop will guide you and your spouse through seven private conversations that capture the defining moments in a love relationship. Through these conversations you will see how to shape these defining moments to create a secure and lasting bond. At the workshop, you will learn the highlights of Attachment Theory and how it can help you and your spouse to understand your relationship better. You will see video samples of real couples engaging in each of these conversations, and then you will have the opportunity to try it on your own with the assistance and support of your workshop leader.
The workshop will be taught by Bob Dorsey, MA, LPC, Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist. Bob is a couples counselor in private practice and focuses solely on couple relationships. He was the Counseling Pastor for a large Church for 19 years before entering private practice. He is married to Sandra, his wife of 31 years and is a graduate of Grace College in Winona Lake, IN and Western Seminary Portland, OR. Bob and Sandra reside in Gresham, OR.
